Brett Favre inactive; QB's streak ends at 297 straight starts

An historic era in NFL annals is ending on Monday as Brett Favre will be left out of the starting lineup for the first time since 1992.

Favre told USA TODAY on Sunday that he doubted he'd be able to play, but Frazier maintained that he would hold open the potential for Favre to play because of his legendary ability to shake off injuries.

The Vikings, 5-7 entering Monday's game, have three more games to play. Favre's availability for those games is uncertain, particularly if the Vikings are eliminated from playoff contention -- as they would be by a loss to the Giants.
